The PHD-4 Sniffer is a portable, compact leak detector from the house of Varian, can comes with a rechargeable battery that can support it for around four hours. It weighs only 5.7 pounds including the weight of the battery. Due to its portable size and less weight, it can be taken carried along easily. The PHD-4 Sniffer is quite compatible when it comes to detecting small and very small leaks in objects that contain a slight helium/air pressure inside. The PHD-4 Sniffer is quite sensitive to helium concentrations as small as 2 parts per million. This is equivalent to a leak rate of 5 × 10-6 atm-cc/sec and is far superior to the performance of other means of detecting leaks, such as bubble testing.
The PHD-4 Sniffer is controlled by microprocessor which makes it easy to use. In most of the cases where the PHD-4 is used, the user requires absolutely no training. The processor handles the complicated tasks such as tuning and zeroing automatically. English, French, German, and Italian are the four languages to which the display can be set.
